The Rebos House is the oldest freestanding rehabilitative facility for alcoholism and addiction in West Pennsylvania.
Founded in 1958, the Rebos House has provided a safe and clean environment for adult men who have serious issues with alcohol and/or drugs in their past. The mission of the Rebos House is to reach out the hand to offer a temporary home so men can focus on rebuilding their lives in recovery.
The Rebos House is a not-for-profit 501(C)3 organization. We use 100% of all donations for operational expenses. There is not an administrative budget–every penny goes to supporting our mission.
“Rebos” is “Sober” spelled backward. While there are other “Rebos” facilities in the United States, we were the first to use the term, and we are pleased that others around the country have followed.
Some of the early supporters of the Rebos House include Bill Dixon, Marty Leydon, Duke Hanna, Jim Duffy, Joe Schweinberg, and other stalwarts in Alcoholics Anonymous. While all have since passed, these men created a Pittsburgh institution that has helped thousands of men in recovery.
The building, located in the Hazelwood section of Pittsburgh, is capable of comfortably accommodating 20 men. The rent is $520 per month, which includes daily dinner as well as a free on-site laundry facility and a weight room.
The Rebos House is currently working on obtaining grants for capital improvements, which include air conditioning, a new furnace, news beds, a new roof, and brick pointing, among other items.
The Rebos House is supported by tax deductible contributions. Rebos House has been blessed to receive generous contributions of time, financial support and valued wisdom from many compassionate people. Unfortunately, some of our longtime donors have passed away in recent years, which has led to a gap in funding and a need to find new and renewed support to maintain our mission.
